چکیده

This paper describes development and testing of the components of a distributed eco-hydrological modelling framework CLASS (Catchment Scale Multiple-Landuse Atmosphere Soil Water and Solute Transport Model). The CLASS modelling framework, its components and their algorithms are described in a detailed technical report (Tuteja et al., 2004; available for download from Catchment Modelling Toolkit website http://www.toolkit.net.au/class). CLASS can be used to predict land-use effects at paddock, hillslope and catchment scales. Effects of climate scenarios predicted by stochastic climate models as well as the effects of spatio-temporal climate variations within a catchment can also be analysed. CLASS can be used for water balance, solute balance, vegetation growth and terrain modelling. Recharge-discharge dynamics, lateral flow and streamflow can also be modelled using CLASS.

Mike She-ecolab – an Integrated Catchment-scale Eco- Hydrological Modelling Tool

Two of the key objectives of the European Water Framework Directive (WFD) are: 1) to protect and enhance the status of aquatic ecosystems (and terrestrial ecosystems and wetlands directly dependent on aquatic ecosystems) and 2) to provide for sufficient supply of good quality surface water and groundwater as needed for sustainable, balanced and equitable water use. These requirements, together ...

How far can we go in distributed hydrological modelling?

This paper considers distributed hydrological models in hydrology as an expression of a pragmatic realism. Some of the problems of distributed modelling are discussed including the problem of nonlinearity, the problem of scale, the problem of equifinality, the problem o f uniqueness and the problem of uncertainty. A structure for the application of distributed modelling is suggested based on an...

CLASS Spatial Analyst: A GIS Based Tool for Distributed Hydrological Modelling

CLASS Spatial Analyst is a GIS tool which can be used for spatial modelling. The tool generates a number of spatial layers that can be used for many practical applications. These include climate zoning, multi-resolution DEMs, Topographic Wetness Index (TWI) / Compound Topographic Index (CTI), lateral multiple flow paths, accumulation and dispersion of water and solutes from hazard areas, estima...

An introduction to the hydrological modelling system PREVAH and its pre- and post-processing-tools

Spatially distributed modelling is an important instrument for studying the hydrological cycle, both concerning its present state as well as possible future changes in climate and land use. Results of such simulations are particularly relevant for the fields of water resources, natural hazards and hydropower. The semi-distributed hydrological modelling system PREVAH (PREecipitation-Runoff-EVApo...

Rainfall-runoff modelling using artificial neural networks (ANNs): modelling and understanding

In recent years, artificial neural networks (ANNs) have become one of the most promising tools in order to model complex hydrological processes such as the rainfall-runoff process. In many studies, ANNs have demonstrated superior results compared to alternative methods. ANNs are able to map underlying relationship between input and output data without prior understanding of the process under in...
